2nd SEHA Trauma Conference

Trauma is one of the leading causes of death in the UAE and affects all age groups. In order to reduce fatalities and morbidity following trauma, a healthcare system must address the management of these patients in the pre-hospital phase as well as within the trauma hospital where patients will usually pass through the emergency department, radiology, operating theatres, interventional suites and intensive care units. We often describe the importance of the “golden hour” to help trauma patients survive but success relates to the efficient management within a well-equipped service.

With over 40 highly experienced faculty with both international and regional experts we delivered 2 days of lectures encompassing the management of blunt and penetrating trauma and provide sessions covering trauma from the perspective of a variety of trauma related specialities. They also ran 4 parallel specialised workshops on the second day. Workshops offered smaller group, hands-on experience in 1) eFAST scans; 2) Airway and chest trauma 3) Surgical, orthopaedic and endovascular simulation and finally 4) Burns and trauma wound management.

Our conference aims to highlight best practices so that we are able to say that we are “achieving excellence in trauma care."
